Our Story
Q. How did you meet?
(Victoria) I had met her earlier in the afternoon during a huddle at work but I very specifically remember closing that night and while I was zoning I came over to her section because I overheard music no one my age listens to. It was the Temptations and it really stood out to me. As I walked over I kept thinking "damn whoever this person is we are about to be work besties" and boy was I in for an amazing surprise.
(Kayla) It was my first day at my new job. We had a "huddle" and I remember the LOD made us play 2 truths and a lie. A game I hate on top of being at a new place that made me more than a little shy. I noticed this girl with bright blue eyes. After everyone dispersed she hung back to let me know that she was always willing to answer any questions if I had any to ask.
Q. What's your favorite activity together?
(Victoria) This is so hard to pinpoint and yes I know that sounds cliche (bite me). I love when we are just us and do simple things like Grocery shopping, going on adventures, car rides, Thrifting and antiquing . I also love watching movies or playing video games together. Spending time with eachother and our puppies is what makes my heart smile.
(Kayla) I love it when we overcommit to hobbies together or just exist as people together. It is simple, but my favorite.
Q. Who made the first move? How?
(Victoria) At this point we had been talking at work about music, movies, and fave tv shows and learned we actually had a fair amount in common. while on a break I walked over and gave her my number so we "could talk about Doctor Who". That night I was going to go see the Doctor Who special in theaters and wanted to know if she wanted to talk about it. So I gave her my number....you know for nerdy purposes....
(Kayla) I had a feeling that she wouldn't be interested in me so I would only casually talk to her. Until one day we were sitting in the breakroom talking on a lunch break. She commented on how cool my superhero earrings were and we talked about nerd stuff. She ended up asking for my number to talk about Doctor Who. She texted me that night and we never stopped.
Q. Can you explain your unique engagement?
(Victoria) Early in the relationship when we had a serious conversation we knew we wanted to be a forever thing, but when I asked who would propose to who, Kayla said why not both? We have been through a lot, good, and the middle bits, but I knew I wanted to be the first to do so. Although I am not good at keeping a secret, I employed our best friend and my soon to be sister in law to plan a surprise engagement for my soon to be wife. One night while Kayla was asleep on the couch with the dogs, as per usual, I ran to my jewelry box and grabbed a few of my various sized rings. I attempted to size her finger without waking her up. After finding out what size she was, I took to the internet to find the perfect ring and immediately texted Marissa and Zach for feedback. After weeks of planning and stressing I knew I had found the perfect place that I had wanted to ask her to spend the rest of our lives together. I tried my best day of to keep it a secret and remain calm, even hiding the ring box in my bra. I had told Kayla we were going there to meet friends for her birthday, to walk around the botanical garden, and go get lunch, but I was still pretty nervous. At this point I was pretty sure she had no idea what was going on (Kayla can explain that later) I told her we needed to check and see where everyone was. I checked my phone to make sure everyone was there just below the bridge. Where our best friends dad waited with camera pointed. As we rounded the corner I got down on one knee with tears in my eyes and said "hey babe" I didn't say anything after that till Kayla asked me if I was going to say anything (nerves got me and I got super emotional per usual lol) but I of course then said "will you marry me?"
She responded with " I'll think about it"
(Kayla) So I knew she was going to ask me to marry her about 2 months before she asked me, which I assume is around the time she decided she was going to. I had always wanted her to ask first, because I am a princess and waited a long time for her to decide on this relationship.
I wanted to ask her a few months after she had asked me on our anniversary, a date that some of you know is actually up for debate. Unfortunately the universe had its own plans, but after several delays the ring finally arrived more than a year later. I knew the perfect time to ask would be Friday the 13th. That is the date we usually end up celebrating as our Valentines day(since our anniversary has and will always be Halloween. It felt appropriate) I lead her on a scavenger hunt where we replayed all of our favorite dates. It ended with us with friends getting drinks at our favorite hangout spot. I picked the coldest day of the year to ask her while outside in the wind. We quickly ran inside after for some refreshments. Oh and she did ask if I was sure, but that seemed like a weird time to change my mind. I have and will always be sure.
